Research into minimising the risks of miscalculating medication dosages, which has been conducted by experts at the University of Glamorgan, is to be presented at a high profile North American research conference in Ohio.

Researchers from the School of Care Sciences at the University of Glamorgan, have been collaborating with the School of Nursing at Case Western Reserve University (Case) in Cleveland - ranked consistently as a 'Top Ten' nursing school in the United States. They will present their findings as part of the Case annual Research ShowCASE event on April 6.

Dr. Keith Weeks and Norman Woolley from the University of Glamorgan, have worked with Case's Dr. John Clochesy, the Independence Foundation Professor of Nursing Education. Their presentation 'Minimizing Medication Dosage Calculation Errors: A Trans-Atlantic Collaboration, in Progress' highlights their efforts to test and adapt a North American version of Authentic World's Medication Dosage Calculation Skills software, developed in the UK to minimise errors.

Authentic World Ltd is a spin-out company of Glamorgan & Cardiff Universities whose mission is to improve patient safety by reducing medication errors through the development of innovative educational software solutions. Their products are already being used by Higher Education Institutions and NHS Trusts across the UK.

Norman Woolley, Principal Lecturer at Glamorgan and CEO of Authentic World Ltd, said "This is an exciting and important collaboration - dosage miscalculation is an unacceptable feature of 21st century healthcare - this research will take us another step closer to minimizing the incidence of error through the development of a truly international solution."

Over 500 scientists and scholars will attend the ShowCASE to celebrate the success of innovative technology research conducted at Case and its affiliates.
